Proper Installation of Mailboxes

If your mail won’t fit in the mailbox, many people in this situation have todrive to the Post Office. What an inconvenience! Fortunately, you aren’t stuck with the mailbox your house came with. You can always have a better mailbox installed.

Note: You do need permission from the US Postal Service to move your existing mailbox or to install a new one. Just call your nearest post office here in Boston. (Here is the list for our New Hampshire customers, as well).

Ask to speak to your delivery manager. They’ll give you guidance on where your mailbox should be.

It will be the proper height (41″ to 45″ from the road surface to the bottom of the mailbox) and the right distance from the curb (6″ to 8″). We’ll make sure your house number is properly added and that your mailbox post is up to USPS regulations and standards.

What if someone ran over your mailbox?

The USPS will only hold your mail for 30 days, so call us fast to install a new mailbox! It’s rarely worth it to repair a mailbox, but we can put a brand new one in the ground for you.

If you are calling us because your mailbox has been damaged then you should call your local post office to ensure that they’re not actually responsible for your current box. If they are, they will install a new mailbox. Most boxes in Boston are the responsibility of property owners, but one never knows.

Do maintain your mailbox once we install your new one, as this is a USPS requirement many people aren’t aware of.
